  • Driving Miss Ellie

Yesterday, I spent the day with my Dad. Because of his health problems, the seven of us kids take him for an afternoon each weekend.

He lives about an hour away from our home, so I decided to take Ellie with me on the trip. She found out that she likes to ride, but only if she can sit on my shoulders while I drive. We used to have a chihuahua like that too. The difference is that Ellie certainly won’t be doing this for long!

Taking a picture with your cell phone while driving and having a dog wrapped around your neck probably isn’t the safest act in history. Kids, don’t try this at home. I am a trained professional!

Dad and I stopped at a Turkey Hill to get coffee and soda. Turkey Hill is a convenience store in Lancaster County. Ellie’s too small to leave alone, and it was too hot in the car anyway. I couldn’t send my Dad into the store by himself, so there was no choice but to carry her into the store. I figured the worst they could do was yell at me, and as long as I had my coffee first, I could handle it.

To make it short, the two ladies behind the counter wanted to pet her. The manager pet her. One of the clerks asked if she needed a drink and told me where to get a cup and some water. I guess puppies don’t get thrown out of stores.

So life goes on with the pup. Once she gets housebroken and crate trained, we’re all set.
